How

I have always had the dream of being an artist, ever since I was in kindergarten. I remember in fourth grade, we had this substitute teacher, Mrs. B. The kids, or I atleast, were always so excited when she would walk through the door. We knew that she was going to teach us an art lesson. Every time she was a sub, she would always make sure to teach the kids how to draw something, whether it be a fall scene or the Titanic, she taught us step by step, and I'm being honest when I say that they didn't look half bad.

As I am sitting here, I am thinking of all the things that made me want to become an artist.

Whether it was Mrs. B or any of my other art teachers, I have always loved art.

When I was younger, I wanted to be an artist who drew things. I loved drawing pictures of cats. Many many cats. All different kinds, and I would say that they were my cats.

As I got a little older, I took photo classes. I loved them. Photography is such an amazing thing. You can take an ordinary scene and by changing one little thing about it, such as the lighting or whether it's in color or black and white, it can provoke an erray of feelings and emotions. One piece that provokes many different feelings is the piece called "Migrant Mother, " by Dorothea Lange.

The feeling on the mother's face was captured so well in this picture. You can feel what she is feeling, stress, anxiety, pain. She is worried about her children, their lives. You can tell by her eyes. For someone to be able to capture that is truly amazing.

As I got into my junior year of high school, I took a class called Creative Imaging. It was a very fun class. We learned how to use Photoshop to transform a picture.

Fly Fish

Most likely, you will never see this happen in real life, a gold fish leaping out of it's fish bowl. But, if you use photoshop you can create an image like this. It may seem hard to create a picture this surreal looking, but with a little bit of knowledge about photoshopping, you will be able to make a photo similiar to this one.

The beauty of photoshopping, is that by using it you can create amazing pieces of work.

Designing Images

 Here is an image which was created using the web. They may have taken an image of the computer or the monkey and tweaked it a bit to make it look more like a cartoon. This is a good example of web design, because it is using graphics as well as images to transform a picture.

What is art?
The question is posed in many art classes.
"What is art?"

In my opinion, art is an expression of ideas or feelings into a piece of work which contains good craftsmanship. Art is designed to provoke a certain thought or feelings.

Art is defined in the English dictionary as; consisting of paintings, sculpture, and other pictures or objects which are created for people to look at and admire or think deeply about.

There are many, many, many different types of art. Art ranges from poetry to paintings, from sculptors to plays and anything in between. One form of art that interests me most, is graphic design. Graphic design uses a series of photographs or drawings on the computer to morph them together and form one photograph. The final photograph usually portrays either a surreal scene, or a scene that could truly happen in nature. The reason why graphic design interests me so much, is because I like the surrealism and the questions or feelings it provokes. I am also not the best drawer in the world, although I am getting better thanks to the help of my drawing and painting teacher, so therefore using images from the web or my own photographs that I have taken and maybe a few of my best drawings to form one masterpiece is much more successful. Graphic design also uses much creativity as you piece together an ocean scene with an image of a giraffe filtered to look as though it were sketched against a purple sky.

I have created many of my own pieces, and have seen many pieces which have inspired me and made me think as well as have given me ideas on my next project. Throughout my blogs, I will be showing a few of my own pieces and discussing what was going through my mind and what it was I was attempting to portray and get at. I will also be showing a few designs by artists that have not only inspired me, but left me in awe. Art that uses graphic design won't be the only type of art that I use on this site, though the majority of the artwork will consist of computer animated images.

I hope that these blogs will not only teach you more about art, but that they will inspire you yourself to make art if you're not doing it already.
